I call David my camp counselor. He earned this title because of his night-time routine. See, David and I agree on most everything, everything except our night-time routines that is. I prefer to get ready for bed and then read or watch TV until my eyes are heavy. At that point, I’m ready to turn off the lights and go to sleep. David, on the other hand, gets ready for bed and literally calls out to me, “lights out” just like a camp counselor. He wants to turn the lights off and go to sleep right away. Obviously, this required some compromising for the sake of our marriage and his need to get 8 hours of sleep each night. Luckily, neither of us is so stubborn that this turned into an issue. At some point he bought me a personal reading light so I could read after “lights out” and last Valentine’s Day one of David’s presents was…
A sleep mask! Very thoughtful right? David is able to wear his sleep mask and get his beauty rest and I can watch TV after “lights out” with the volume turned WAY down and all is right with the world. I have to admit I did at one point have the perfect blackmail picture of him wearing this when he was asleep one night but I had to delete it off my phone (because it wasn’t random person looking at my pictures appropriate). I also have to say he has actually gotten much better about “lights out” than he was 2 and half years ago when we first got married. I love my camp counselor.
You’ve told me about your camp counselor before, but this still makes me laugh. I think I am like David, and Jason is just like you.
