Holland |6 Months|

6 months… almost caught up! This is as of 12/25/16

 photo Holland 6 months-18_zpsqo0pbrbj.jpg

Sitting is no longer cool enough… you want to move.

 photo Holland 6 months-5_zpscbd6gpea.jpg

You love to stand

 photo Holland 6 months-8_zps1yuv5bt6.jpg

You were very clear about your desire to eat some real food so you got to start baby led weaning a little earlier than Kennedy and Reese did. You have been all in right from the start and you still haven’t met a food you didn’t like.

 photo Holland 6 months-9_zps10gkvg9j.jpg

At your 6 month appointment you were
-14 pounds 8 ounces (20th percentile)
-26 inches long

 photo Holland 6 months-10_zpssohvrw5w.jpg

You still love bath time and we still have you in the kitchen sink. It’s so easy, but the time is limited now that you’re sitting so well and getting more mobile.

 photo Holland 6 months-11_zpsx0k0gaxh.jpg

 photo Holland 6 months-12_zps7tbiczxu.jpg

You were working on your 2 bottom teeth. 1 cut right before Christmas.

 photo Holland 6 months-7_zpsn8ubdpm1.jpg

Sleep was decent except for the teeth cutting. 2 times a night seems to be the norm. I’m ok with that.

 photo Holland 6 months_zpse11r2fhg.jpg

You and Kennedy… sweetest. thing. ever.

Holland |5 Months|

This month… 5 months. So this is up to November 25, 2016.

 photo 5 months-13_zpsmaapaehe.jpg

You roll both ways, but you very rarely roll from your belly to your back.

 photo 5 months-4_zpshcctrpxl.jpg

You perfected sitting and you seriously never fall over. I kept the boppy around you for another week or so and realized you really didn’t need it.

 photo 5 months-10_zpsssgbbqd3.jpg

Whatever the yoga pose is where you push your butt up in the air and make a triangle… you do that.

 photo 5 months-16_zpsrbizdwbf.jpg

You had your first Halloween. I was going to dress you up, but then I decided it wasn’t really worth it since I’d just be wearing you in the Solly. There’s always next year. You did get to go to a few pumpkin patches and you may have christened a pumpkin with spit up.

 photo 5 months_zps6xqb1tag.jpg

You love watching Kennedy and Reese play and I can’t wait until you get to play right along with them.

 photo 5 months-3_zpsm1h4rrf3.jpg

 photo 5 months-5_zpsidhvfzo7.jpg

 photo 5 months-18_zpsff3alqhq.jpg

You grab at EVERYTHING and you are a major pincher and hair puller.

 photo 5 months-2_zpsvxoceko4.jpg

You love to stand

 photo 5 months-14_zpsumeebvyl.jpg

You love your feet and toes and you put them in your mouth all the time.

 photo 5 months-12_zpswgfahauu.jpg

 photo 5 months-15_zps0zoxsof6.jpg

Naps started getting better. Usually 2 longer naps about 1.5 hours and a short 30 minute nap. You still wake up a few times a night to eat.

 photo 5 months-7_zps2vo81zbs.jpg

You are getting better at putting your paci in yourself. I watch you on the monitor practicing taking it out and putting it back in until you fall asleep.

 photo 5 months-8_zpsrdwpwmq5.jpg

You had your first Thanksgiving and you slept through dinner.

 photo 5 months-6_zps21ko7fql.jpg

You’re still the sweetest, happiest little baby and I love you so, so much!

Happy 5 Months, Holland Taylor!

Holland |4 Months|

So behind… she turned 6 months on Christmas.  This has been a “season” for our family for sure and now we’re in this weird transitional phase.  Hopefully I’ll be able to blog about that at some point, but monthly posts have to come first.  Or you know, her birth story.  Anyways…

You turned 4 months October 25th and you are still the easiest baby on the planet.

 photo Holland 4 months-6_zps901x6v9a.jpg

I stopped swaddling you right when you turned 3 months and you got put in the marshmallow suit. It worked really well for you.

 photo Holland 4 months-5_zpsuc1irqfy.jpg

You’ve had rough patches here and there (a day or two where I could only get you to sleep in the swing, too), but you generally only wake up once or twice a night.  You’re not our best sleeper as far as sleeping through the night, but you put yourself to sleep so quickly and easily and it makes nap time and bedtime a dream.

 photo Holland 4 months-15_zpsxxhyrzr1.jpg

Naps are still about 45 minutes and bedtime is at 7.

 photo Holland 4 months-14_zpshuemridj.jpg

At your 4 month check up you were almost 12 pounds and 24″.

 photo Holland 4 months-10_zpslq7m6c6x.jpg

Bathtime is still a favorite for both of us. You don’t have a “witching hour” so we never dread the end of the day. Your hands were a favorite this month, too.

 photo Holland 4 months_zpsvjdm9obb.jpg

We broke out the activity jumper and you really liked being able to stand.

 photo Holland 4 months-9_zpsomutxzxk.jpg

 photo Holland 4 months-8_zpsvpva6jcv.jpg

The girls still love you more than anything and you love them right back.

Reese |6 Months|

I still can’t believe it’s been 6 months Reesey!

This month

 photo Reese6Months-9037_zps7e89f87e.jpg

You are sitting like it’s your job, but we’ve had some interesting face-plants… One may have included chalk all over your face.

 photo Reese6Months-9016_zps618a7f5d.jpg

 photo Reese6Months-8646_zps1b11b09c.jpg

You love to stand and you always do a little dance

 photo Reese6Months-8238_zpsfbc3310a.jpg

I let you try some avocado and your dad may or may not have given you some frozen yogurt. You also love veggie straws.

 photo Reese6Months-8251_zps532e3240.jpg

At your 6 month appointment you were
-14 pounds 1 ounce {13.21 %… they’re very accurate at your doctor’s office apparently}
-26 inches long {53.83%}

 photo Reese6Months-8105_zpsdbcca561.jpg

You sit in the bath chair now instead of the infant tub.

 photo Reese6Months-8655_zpscc01e45b.jpg

You grab at everything. You also pull me in for the most slobbery kisses and they’re the best ever.

 photo Reese6Months-8181_zps3a16215a.jpg

You finally decided to start rolling, but you still won’t roll to your belly unless I make you. You really hate being on your belly.

 photo Reese6Months-8618_zps1327607e.jpg

Sleep is… better. Usually you wake up 2 times a night. 10:30-11 and 2:30-3. I don’t mind because I still haven’t gone to bed by the time your first wake up rolls around so it really feels like you only wake up once.

 photo Reese6Months-8585_zpsd736497f.jpg

You still haven’t gotten those teeth in, but they’re there and driving us both crazy. I can’t complain too much though because your sister already had 2 at this point and nursing was changed forever.

 photo Reese6Months-8228_zpse2e40b05.jpg

You added blowing raspberries to your list of sounds. You are so loud and it’s hilarious.

 photo Reese6Months-8233_zpsec6585f0.jpg

You are completely head over heels for Kennedy and it’s the sweetest.

 photo Reese6Months-8226_zps119d897d.jpg

I love you so much, my sweet baby girl. Happy 6 Months, Reesey!

Dear Sleep, I Hate You

It’s 4:30 in the morning and I’m obviously not sleeping so I figured I’d do a sleep update for everyone.

When we left off, Reese was fighting the swaddle, but wouldn’t sleep in her crib. Awesome, right?

My friend let me borrow the Magic Sleep Suit. My verdict? It’s kind of Magic… maybe? The suit has been successful as far a getting her to sleep in the crib and getting her unswaddled. Now she takes great naps too {about 1.5-2hrs long usually}, but it didn’t do anything for her nighttime sleep.

 photo 501DFB4E-ED81-4AF3-805B-4073BF4A60B1_zpsubebz8x8.jpg

She was still waking up every 30-45 minutes and I was a disaster. I don’t do well on repeated nights of no sleep so a few nights shy of a total mental breakdown I started researching ALL the sleep methods in the world and then I tried a few.

Pick up/Put down seemed to make some sense, but I quit this SO fast. I can’t tell you how angry it made her for me to pick her up and immediately set her down over and over again. Also, it sucks physically to bend down into the crib over and over again. And really, I can’t see how this is a “gentler” method because in my head all I was doing was teasing her.

Staying in the room in any way doesn’t seem to work because I am the milk machine and we all know that milk is baby crack. So those options were out.

And let’s be real here… These methods aren’t real life solutions in my world. I have a toddler running around screaming “quiet voice” so no, I don’t have the ideal sleep environment or the time that all these stupid methods require.

That leaves me with Option: You Lose that everyone was telling me to try all along. Letting her cry. Just the idea of this makes me anxious, but actually doing it is worse.

I couldn’t do the actual method so the first night we went in at 3 minutes and every 5 minutes after that until she fell asleep. It took a little over 20 minutes and really she never started crying hard it was more random yelling with fussing. But, she slept until 1:30 woke up to eat and went back down until 7:30.

I was really encouraged after the first night, but now I’m not so sure. I was hoping for it to magically work and after 3 days I’d have a perfectly sleeping baby, but it hasn’t been so easy. She’s still all over the board at night. Some nights she only wakes up once and others she’s up after she wakes up to eat at 12:30-1 and doesn’t really go back down.

I’ve never agreed with this method in the first place so I hate that I’m doing it. When she cries I’m a wreck… pacing around the house, so anxious I’m nauseous, and when our nights are bad I want to just quit.

But I’m at that point where something’s gotta give. I need sleep and she NEEDS sleep…. a lot of it. Without it, I can’t be a decent parent and she’s a sleep deprived baby so is waking up with her every hour doing either of us any good?

I want to comfort her and I wouldn’t even mind waking up even 3 or 4 times a night, but every 45 minutes {sleep cycle} is excessive and maintaining that just to avoid the guilt {and that little part where I’m potentially damaging her forever because that weighs easy on the mind} doesn’t make sense either.

So here we are. My baby looks like a pink Michelin man, I’m letting her cry, and I’m obviously still a train wreck. Parenting at its finest over here.

Reese |5 Months|

This month…

 photo Reese5Months-7888_zpsea3d557f.jpg

 photo Reese5Months-7871_zps68d5fd10.jpg

You talk and talk and talk. Screeching and squealing included.

 photo Reese5Months-7498_zps0b4f4a3d.jpg

You still aren’t rolling, but you’re sitting by yourself for maybe 10 seconds or so before you tip over or start to lean really far forward. I called it when I said you’d sit before you rolled over.

 photo Reese5Months-7579_zps25c95a99.jpg

You are actually scooting a bit on the play mat. You don’t realize what you’re doing yet I don’t think, but you’ve got the frog legs down.

 photo Reese5Months-6989_zpsbc2fc676.jpg

 photo Reese5Months-6992_zpsa87f972c.jpg

You had a weight check and you weighed 13.5 pounds putting you in the 15% percentile.

 photo Reese5Months-7302_zps4da5860b.jpg

Kennedy makes you laugh and laugh. Everything is more fun for you when she’s around and it makes me so excited to see you grow up together.

 photo Reese5Months-7912_zps1e72b41a.jpg

We moved you to the crib. Kind of. Sort of. More on that later.

 photo Reese5Months-7783_zps2fd50993.jpg

You still won’t take a bottle. You’re also at the age where you get very distracted while you eat. You just drop you head and look all around upside down.

 photo Reese5Months-7550_zps3aba1955.jpg

You grab at EVERYTHING and you are a major pincher and hair puller.

 photo Reese5Months-7875_zpsf14bef64.jpg

Your tooth still hasn’t cut through yet, but I’m ok with you being teeth free for a while. You’re drooling is actually getting better though.

 photo Reese5Months-7022_zps61e423d6.jpg

You love to stand and you’re getting pretty good at standing while holding onto the coffee table or holding someone’s fingers.

 photo Reese5Months-7502_zps5c094287.jpg

You’re so good in the car seat now. This makes going anywhere so much easier.

 photo Reese5Months-7812_zps23f9b9b6.jpg

You love your feet and toes and you can almost get your toes in your mouth.

 photo Reese5Months-7850_zps91bb3203.jpg

You take your paci out and try to put it back in all the time.

 photo Reese5Months-7493_zpsb34db665.jpg

You get bored really easily and love having toys in your hands to play with.

 photo Reese5Months-7355_zpsaea2e6ae.jpg

You finally stopped spitting up so much… except when Auntie Lo is holding you.

 photo Reese5Months-7904_zps401d7289.jpg

 photo Reese5Months-7908_zps298f728d.jpg

You’re still the sweetest, happiest little baby and I love you so, so much!

Happy 5 Months, Reese Olivia!

I’m Too Tired For A Title

Just know that I’m comparing situations here and not my girls.

Kennedy was unswaddled by 10 or 11 weeks. She’s also a belly sleeper {still is} which is important to note because your arms have much less mobility on your stomach. And when I decided to move her to her crib… zero issues.

And then there’s Reese.

I’ve been dreading, dreading, moving Reese to her crib at night since she was about 3 weeks old. I had a feeling it wouldn’t be easy so I’ve been putting it off in favor of more sleep.

Right now she takes naps in her crib, swaddled with 1 arm out, and at night she sleeps in the Rock n’ Play totally swaddled… until last night.

 photo F1485668-0688-4B42-9099-FC34FEE43637_zpser6ayuhu.jpg

I finally tried the crib. And it was awesome. I’d see her wake up on the monitor and she’d put herself back to sleep and I was so proud of her. And then the girls decided to time warp back 3 months and torture me with the tag-team game they made up when Reese was a newborn.

I was in bed by 10:45 and Kennedy randomly woke up around 11. Awesome. Get her back down and she’s up again about 15 minutes later screaming for water. Kennedy is finally back to sleep by about 11:30 and Reese starts screaming at 11:39. Not. Kidding. {Kennedy woke her up and she has this weird thing where she cries if she hears Kennedy cry}

I put Reese back down, get back in bed, and she’s back up. I played the up, down game a few times, but I gave up around 1:30 and put her in the Rock n’ Play except now she was so overtired she just wasn’t going to sleep at all. So I stuck her in my bed and she kicked me the rest of the night.

Here’s the thing with Reese… She’s fighting the swaddle, but if she’s not swaddled she can’t sleep. If she has access to her hands then they’re in her mouth, rubbing her face, and waking. her. up. She’s also a back sleeper so her arms can be all over the place if she wants them to be. It’s just a perfect storm of sleep issues.

Maybe it was just an early April Fool’s joke, but I’m a zombie and I think trying to move her was officially the worst idea ever. I’m still debating trying it again tonight or just trying again in a week or so. Or maybe I’ll just keep her in the Rock n’ Play until she’s 10 and she can ask to sleep somewhere else.
