Reese’s 3rd Birthday Q&A

I started this with Kennedy when she turned 3 so I started it with Reesey this year… er last year. She turned 3 in November. I’m sure you’ll note the common theme in her answers.

What did you do on your birthday? Unfortunately, Reesey’s birthday was during David’s “unnamed employer Crisis of 2016” and it fell on a weekday so David wasn’t home. We pretended like her birthday was the following Saturday because David felt so bad that he wouldn’t be home. By November the girl’s missed him a lot and they got upset when we talked about him not being home so it was easier to not discuss him being gone for her birthday and luckily she’s young enough that she didn’t get it. That Saturday, Kennedy woke up early and woke Reese up so balloons were a no go. We did presents and hung out while they played with those for a while. That afternoon, we took the girls to the fair so now Reese thinks the fair comes for her birthday and plans to again next year.

I have to mention this because it’s one of those stories you’ll never forget… I asked Reese what kind of cake she wanted for her birthday. She was very specific and wanted a cake with purple frosting, topped with horses and sprinkles. The girls and I made a double layer round cake and we made some buttercream frosting to go with it because homemade is the way to go. I frosted it later and when I finished it I was going to put it in the fridge. I opened the door to the fridge and the cake flipped off the cake plate to the floor. It landed upside down of course. I had to laugh because what else do you do, right? Cry, maybe. So I did what any normal mom would do and took the bottom layer of the cake that didn’t hit the ground and stuck it back on the cake plate. I stuck candles in it, her number 3, and a bunch of horses and we sang happy birthday. I made her a new cake the next day.

We went to the splash pad for a while before we went to her doctor appointment where we found out both girls had strep.  Happy Birthday!  We played at home the rest of the day and they rested on the couch.  We took them to 5 Guys for dinner (where Kennedy asked to go), but neither of them were very hungry.  We got her a cupcake from Small Cakes and then went home to eat the cake she helped bake earlier in the day.  That weekend we went to the beach and planned to go to the Jacksonville Zoo, but we postponed that because of them having strep and her not being in the best mood.

Kennedy Says |Birthday Edition|

I asked Kennedy to answer a list of questions.  I plan to do it every year for her birthday and see how her answers change.  Funny thing, the girl of a million words was straight one word answers except for a few.  I was trying to do it quick so she’d give me what came to her head first so maybe that’s why.

Nicknames – She doesn’t really have one.  She’s Kennedy or Kennedy Brooke.  Sometimes I call her love bug or lady bug, but it’s not specific to her.

What did you do on your birthday?  We went to the beach the day before and her actual birthday was on a Tuesday so she woke up to balloons all over her room, we went to Dunkin Donuts and ate inside because she loves to go inside, she helped me bake her birthday cake and make frosting and decorate the cake {she picked the color of the frosting and sprinkles}, she stomped in the river we made in her new rain boots, and that night we got pizza and took it to the splash pad with our cake and Madeline and her family met us there to play.

Happy 3rd Birthday, Kennedy!

Dear Kennedy,

I had until 2:58pm today to call you a 2-year old.  It came and went and you are officially three.  How is it possible that it’s already been three years since you changed my life forever? How is it possible that it’s only been three years because my days before you seem so blurry and far away.

You are amazing in so many ways and I love that it’s my job to spend my days with you… difficult as they are sometimes. Okay, a lot of the time.  You’ve changed so much this year and I’ve so loved watching you become this little person with such a big personality.
I have a threenager.  I think I’m more scared of you now than I was when you turned two, but I still couldn’t love you more.

Happy 3rd birthday, Kennedy Brooke!

With all my love,

Mommy

Happy Birthday, Deer Reese!

I mentioned before that Fall birthdays are hard to think of ideas for. I had a hard time with Reese’s aside from knowing that I wanted it to be gold and I wanted to sparkle. all. the. things. I saw a birthday party that I loved the cake for here and it was a “deer” theme so I ran with that.

True to my style the invitations were way late. I let people know there was going to be a party on the 8th, but I couldn’t tell them a time because we had to wait for the time of the FSU game to be announced since we don’t miss games over here and a bunch of my family were going to the game. SO… I waited. and waited. and waited some more until they finally announced it and I quick told the invitation designer the time. I got them back the Friday before the party so I just sent a picture text of the invitation out to everyone. Digital era for the win.

I like to keep the first birthday parties small. I feel like babies get really overwhelmed pretty quickly and I didn’t want Reese to be clingy and fussy. So it was just family and a few close friends. I kept food simple too and made a big chili bar with baked potatoes, french fries, hot dogs… basically anything you’d potentially put chili on.

I didn’t decorate much, just made a few signs, the little banner for Reese’s cake and her birthday outfit.

My brother’s girlfried baked and frosted Reese’s cake for me because she’s awesome and I love her forever for doing that because it turned out so cute!

And let’s just talk about Reese’s birthday outfit for a minute. I wanted Deer pants. I couldn’t find deer pants. I very rarely take no for an answer so I made them myself. Much to the amusement of my husband, mom and sister because they thought I was insane. I might be, but I still wanted deer pants. The first pair actually got ruined by accident while I was making them so my sister went to old navy in the morning and bought a new pair and I. LOVE. THEM. So did everyone else once they saw them so there.

Reese’s cake smash didn’t go super well. I think she was getting really tired, but she ended up rubbing her eye and smashing cake and frosting all over them and she freaked out. Cake smash over.

and that’s about it. I still can’t believe she’s 1!

Happy Birthday, Reese

Reesey, Reesey. Where do I begin? I’m not sure how to talk about you being one when I don’t know how it happened. In some ways you have maintained your baby status so much longer because I see Kennedy and you seem so much smaller and younger. In other ways, this has been the fastest year of my life and you were literally born yesterday.

Sweet girl, you have taught me so much this year… far beyond how to function in a perpetual state of sleep deprivation. I’ve had to learn to parent all over again. Not the basics, obviously, but how to parent you. Learning who you are and what you need. Because it’s all different, no baby is the same, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. I love the personality you have. The dynamic you bring to our family. I love that you demand my attention. There is no forgetting about you!

My favorite quote for you all along has been “and though she be but little she is fierce” and it is so, so true. You are strong-willed, always ready for battle, loud and independent. You are energetic, ever curious, and fun-loving. Little, but fierce.

Reese, you are the most unexpected gift I’ve ever been given. Nothing about you is ordinary and life is better with you in it.

Happy 1st Birthday, baby girl!

Love,
Mommy

Goodbye 28… Hello 29!

Guys. I’m 29. How did this happen? Because, apparently, last Thursday it happened.

I just don’t get it. I still feel like a little kid when I go to the grocery store and people look at me funny when I claim both girls as my own. But, here I am… my last year in my 20’s.

My actual birthday was great. I slept in and David had an iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts waiting for me when I woke up. Kennedy saw me and started yelling the Happy Birthday song while showing me the “card” she made for me. My friend Tiffany took me to lunch and my sister and BIL watched the girls later that day so David and I could get out by ourselves for a bit. David was asking me all day where I wanted to go, but I couldn’t decide. Finally I decided that I didn’t want to go to dinner. I wanted quiet AND I was too lazy to actually get dressed, so we went to Publix, loaded up our picnic basket, and ate dinner at this park David loves.

 photo 737C108A-4D86-4D90-9124-AFF75CCA1BEA_zps6qscckvp.jpg

{so, I’ve decided after seeing this picture we need a real picnic blanket. We were in a hurry so David grabbed a couple of towels and it kind of kills the vibe. How’s that for random?}

Anyways, we came home and ate ice cream cookie sandwiches and key lime pie with Lo and Paul. Desserts for the win! We let Kennedy stay up so she could help me blow out the candles and we ended up doing it twice because birthdays are her favorite thing ever.

So, 29 doesn’t seem so bad, but I’m sure the birthday kisses from my baby girl helped.
