Reese’s 3rd Birthday Q&A

I started this with Kennedy when she turned 3 so I started it with Reesey this year… er last year. She turned 3 in November. I’m sure you’ll note the common theme in her answers.

What did you do on your birthday? Unfortunately, Reesey’s birthday was during David’s “unnamed employer Crisis of 2016” and it fell on a weekday so David wasn’t home. We pretended like her birthday was the following Saturday because David felt so bad that he wouldn’t be home. By November the girl’s missed him a lot and they got upset when we talked about him not being home so it was easier to not discuss him being gone for her birthday and luckily she’s young enough that she didn’t get it. That Saturday, Kennedy woke up early and woke Reese up so balloons were a no go. We did presents and hung out while they played with those for a while. That afternoon, we took the girls to the fair so now Reese thinks the fair comes for her birthday and plans to again next year.

I have to mention this because it’s one of those stories you’ll never forget… I asked Reese what kind of cake she wanted for her birthday. She was very specific and wanted a cake with purple frosting, topped with horses and sprinkles. The girls and I made a double layer round cake and we made some buttercream frosting to go with it because homemade is the way to go. I frosted it later and when I finished it I was going to put it in the fridge. I opened the door to the fridge and the cake flipped off the cake plate to the floor. It landed upside down of course. I had to laugh because what else do you do, right? Cry, maybe. So I did what any normal mom would do and took the bottom layer of the cake that didn’t hit the ground and stuck it back on the cake plate. I stuck candles in it, her number 3, and a bunch of horses and we sang happy birthday. I made her a new cake the next day.

Snip Snip

It’s like a cardinal parenting rule:  Should your kid become too quiet go figure out what they did wrong, broke, painted, or in my case CUT.

So, one day back in February I was sitting in the living room, working on painting the headboards for the girl’s new room, during Reese’s nap.  Kennedy had been sitting with me, but she left and went into her room.  She doesn’t take naps anymore, but when Reese naps Kennedy is supposed to do quiet activities.  I didn’t think anything of the fact that she was being quiet, especially since Reese was asleep in there, and there isn’t anything she can’t play with in their room, BUT I should have known.

Kennedy had recently used a pair of scissors in one of her classes and cutting with scissors was her new favorite thing.  I didn’t want her using our big scissors, or any pair for that matter really, but I went and got her first pair of scissors, a preschool pair.  Earlier in the day, she had been practicing cutting out shapes at the kitchen table.  I had no idea the scissors were still out or when she got them, but when David went into her room to check on her she was sitting on her floor innocently cutting out shapes from paper.  It was time to wake up Reese anyways and I didn’t want her using them in her room by herself so I went in there.  I walked up to Reese to wake her up, brushed the hair off her face, and that’s when I saw it.  Little clumps of hair all. over. her. bed.   While Reese slept, Kennedy had played hair salon.

Immediately, I’m thinking 1000 things at once.  Why didn’t I check on her sooner?  We went over the NEVER cutting hair situation when we got the scissors… why did she cut her sister’s hair?!  Why did I ever mention cutting hair like that was even a possibility?  Poor Reesey… she hardly has any hair at all and she’s dying for long hair like her sister and now she looks like Rihanna with a half-shaved head.  The worst haircut ever.  All the feels.

 photo reese haircut-1156_zpsl3jvghvr.jpg

Anyways, I had to deal with the aftermath somehow so I debated 2 options.  Give her a pixie cut or trim it up to conceal it a little better and ride out the awkward.  I went with the second option because I felt terrible cutting off her hair when I know she wants it long.

 photo reese haircut-1161_zpscol7wqbz.jpg

Luckily, her hair is so blonde that it was hidden a little more that way too, but the first few weeks were definitely awkward.

 photo reese haircut-1160_zpscdpy7kbl.jpg

Now, it’s been about 2 months and it looks so much better than it did that first day. Much less blunt and lucky for her, her hair is growing pretty quickly right now.

Kennedy realized what a bad idea the haircut was when she asked me to fix it and I explained that I couldn’t fix it.  My parents were coming to town the next day and she kept asking me over and over not to tell them that she cut Reese’s hair.  She was so anxious about them finding out.  I told her I wouldn’t tell them, but if they noticed we’d have to explain what happened.  She ended up just spilling the whole story about a minute after they walked in the door and you could tell she felt so much better that they knew. Sometimees Reese still tells people that Kennedy cut her hair or she’ll mention it to me when I brush it, but she wasn’t really phased by it at all.  I’m forever traumatized and not sure Kennedy or any of my children will ever use a pair of scissors again.

So that’s, that.  I think it’s the first sibling right of passage we’ve had at our house and I’m sure it won’t be the last.  Good luck, #3.

We went to Disney for a few days in the beginning of May with our friends Beth and Paul and their 2 girls. Their oldest, Madeline, is 2 weeks younger than Kennedy and they’re BFF. She’s been on the blog more than a few times I’m sure.

As far as timing goes, it was perfect. The park wasn’t too crowded and the weather was great. We stayed at the Animal Kingdom resort, which was really nice, and the girls loved seeing all the animals wandering around the hotel. I think we’ve decided that next time we’ll stay at one of the resorts that directly connects to Magic Kingdom just to make life easier though. Everything with a stroller is more complicated so being able to hop on the monorail without folding it up or taking the girls out would be awesome. We took the ferry in which was fine, just a little slower. Anyways…

 photo Disney 1 of 15_zpsdq82s5gb.jpg

Our first day was at Animal Kingdom and aside from some issues with our Magic Bands trying to enter the park everything was great.

We only rode one real ride aside from the Safari. It was basically a dinosaur version of Dumbo, and Kennedy screamed the entire time. Screamed. So, we were a little worried about the next few days.

That day, Reese fell asleep in the Ergo for a while, but Kennedy didn’t fall asleep until the drive over to the hotel after we left the park. She was out cold, so David took her out of the car seat and put her in the stroller without her waking up. Can I get a successful transfer AMEN? She stayed asleep until we woke her up to go to Chef Mickey’s for dinner. I just have iphone videos of Chef Mickey’s, but Kennedy thought it was awesome and Reese was terrified if the characters came too close, but the girl loves, LOVES, Minnie now.

 photo Disney 5 of 15_zpssw0x7mde.jpg

We let Kennedy sleep in the big bed and surrounded her with pillows so she wouldn’t roll off and she thought it was awesome. They slept pretty well. Kennedy stayed up late, until almost 10 both nights, just talking and talking, but once she finally fell asleep she was out.

 photo Disney 1 of 5_zpsriympui4.jpg

 photo Disney 6 of 15_zpsvhunwxll.jpg

Reese was in the pack and play in this little nook in the bathroom and she slept like Reese 🙂

We spent the next 2 days at Magic Kingdom and we all loved it, but the first morning was not off to a great start. We tried to drive over to one of the hotels and take the monorail, but the monorail was closed and the security guards were intense. So that idea got killed and on our way to the Magic Kingdom parking lot we passed the 1 turn for it. So we pulled a u-turn in the median and of course, OF COURSE, there was an unmarked cop car that saw us. Woop, woop! It was awesome. David couldn’t find an unexpired insurance card and the cop was really lame at first. Then I said, “can I just say that we’re not from here (yes we are), and we’re totally lost (no we weren’t) and we’re just trying to go to Magic Kingdom”. So he leaves and comes back a new man and says some nonsense about how he doesn’t like our license plate because he went to UCF and he doesn’t want to get David in trouble and lets us leave. So we got to the park WAY later than anticipated. Beth and I weren’t in the best moods that morning we’ll just say that.

 photo Disney 10 of 15_zps5deiqp21.jpg

We took the girls on the Ariel ride and Kennedy, again, screamed the whole time. This time she kept saying, “I want to go back to my hotel”. So we figured out Kennedy wouldn’t like any rides in the dark or anything Dumbo-ish.

Her favorite was the carousel, hands down. It worked because Reese loved it, too. She kept saying “neigh, neigh”

Her next favorite might have been the Barnstormer and that’s a little roller coaster that is near and dear to my heart so that was awesome. She also liked the “boat ride” (It’s a Small World) and the tea cups.

They met all the princesses. And here you get to see the many faces of Kennedy.

And Reese just watched from the sidelines most of the time. She loved all the princesses though and she would get so excited, but didn’t want to get too close. And then, finally, we met Aurora. (Who I just figured out is sleeping beauty! I always just called her sleeping beauty.)

First she was all, let me show you my shirt…

 photo Disney 4 of 5_zpsxfdujpwl.jpg

And then she ran in for the real thing and gave her a hug and I about died because it was so cute.

 photo Disney 5 of 5_zpssn44ueje.jpg

We rode everything else that they could ride and saw all the sights. When we got tired, toward the end of the 2nd day, we took them on the train ride. We thought Kennedy would love it, but she didn’t seem to think much of it. We also rode the People Mover and got stuck in the dark part through Space Mountain. I had to light up the flashlight on my phone to keep Kennedy from losing it (“I can’t see anyfing!”) while the intercom was begging people to stay in the cars.

 photo Disney 14 of 15_zpsiun4rpcl.jpg

We ended our trip with some Mickey ice cream cones and a couple more rides. We tried to get them to nap so we could stay for the parade, but I couldn’t get Reese to fall asleep so we called it a day.

David and I have been trying to figure out what we loved about it so much. Was it the “magic” of Disney or something else. I think it was a little Disney magic… everything is perfect, clean, and easy with kids and that’s really nice. But, we really think it was just that is was our first family vacation where the girls were involved and not just along for the ride. It was planned for them and around them. It’s so exciting to be able to think about where we’ll take them next and what we’ll do for our next family vacation. We’ll definitely be back to Disney again soon though.

Reese |17 and 18 Months|

Reese, you’re 1.5 years old! Older than Kennedy was when I had you, but still my baby! Here’s where you’ve been up to…

You sleep with baby, blankie, and lovey and after Disney you added minnie.

 photo Reese 17 and 18 3 of 5_zps8nozfy5p.jpg

You have 14 teeth and the last 2 canines on the bottom are cutting now. The canines have been the worst for you and that rock star sleeping I mention a while back, yeah that’s gone.

 photo Reese 17 and 18 3 of 5-2_zps6ipgnzcx.jpg

The 18 month sleep regression also kicked in and you went a little crazy for a few weeks. You woke up for about few hours every night from 1-4ish. You got so, so angry if your dad went in there instead of me. You also unweaned during the night because the only thing that would calm you down was to nurse.

 photo Reese 17 and 18 2 of 2_zpsmiziypy5.jpg

Anyways, you’re better now that the teeth are cutting and we’ve come to the other side of the sleep regression and we have nights where you sleep through and nights where you wake up once. I see the light at the end of the tunnel.

 photo Reese 17 and 18 1 of 2_zpsehwdlfj1.jpg

You’re obsessed with the potty. We’ve found you more than a few times sitting in it. Yes, in it. You are very aware of it and I guess that comes with watching Kennedy for the last year or so. Maybe you’ll potty train early, but I won’t be pushing it because in my opinion there are just as many cons to being potty trained as there are pros and it about breaks even with diapers.

 photo Reese 17 and 18 1 of 3_zpswr9mglox.jpg

 photo Reese 17 and 18 2 of 5_zpsjb4q9jli.jpg

You talk a lot, but mostly at home. You’re pretty quiet unless you’re super comfortable. I think some of the more recent is amen, all done, that, there it is, nigh-nigh, bye-bye, Minnie, potty, wishies (fishies), neigh, moo, duck, dog, ball, love you (ya you), bible, rock (when you rock on the rocking chair or elmer)

 photo Reese 17 and 18 1 of 5-2_zpsdddzrhic.jpg

You’re learning numbers and letters. You can say 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, and 9. The rest you call 2. Hearing you try to sing the alphabet song is one of my favorite things.

 photo Reese 17 and 18 4 of 5_zpsxrhaolqd.jpg

You love to take care of people. Especially babies. You will be my best helper if/when you get a baby sister or brother.

 photo Reese 17 and 18 5 of 5_zpsege4w46z.jpg

You kiss everything. Not kidding. Every page of your books. Toys. People. You name it, you kiss it. I haven’t figured this out yet, but I suppose you just love everything.

 photo Reese 17 and 18 2 of 5-2_zpsc0gmkwwj.jpg

You went to Disney for the first time and you loved it. You love all the Frozen characters and you bring me your Ana and Elsa dolls all the time and say “ana” so you loved seeing the princesses, but you wouldn’t go near them. At the very end of the 3rd day you ran up and gave Aurora a hug and I was so proud of you because I could see how excited you were.

 photo Reese 17 and 18 5 of 5-2_zpsjuvqxnww.jpg

You are still my little peanut. People still ask me how old you are because they can’t believe you’re walking. At your 18 month well visit yesterday you weighed 19 pounds and were 30″ long.

 photo Reese 17 and 18 2 of 3_zpsqlnlcuth.jpg

You’re still nursing, but not as much. Usually 3-4 times a day. I’m about over it though so after these teeth cut I’m going to start weaning you because I really don’t see you weaning yourself… EVER.

 photo Reese 17 and 18 1 of 5_zpsbrf7t3uh.jpg

My sweet, silly girl. I love you so much! Happy 17 and 18 months, Reesey!

Reese |15 and 16 Months|

I still have to do your 1 year picture slide show… hopefully soon.  At least before you turn 2. Here’s 15 and 16 months up to March 10, 2015.

Climbing.  Just nonstop climbing.  You hurt yourself all the time, but that doesn’t deter you at all.  Our kitchen chairs are always laying down in an effort to get you to stop climbing on the kitchen table and dancing.

 photo Reese 15 and 16 months-2688_zps50xi65ae.jpg
 photo Reese 15 and 16 months-2557_zpsaprcmqyh.jpg

Teething.  OMGoodness the teeth you have gotten.  You went from having 6 teeth to having 11 and you’re still going.  You are a really good baby as far as teething pain, but you always, ALWAYS get a runny nose and terrible congestion which ends up turning into a cough.  This is my tell for a new tooth for you.

 photo Reese 15 and 16 months-2091_zpscjx7d0lv.jpg

I didn’t mention this in your 13/14 month update, but you’re still nursing pretty regularly.  My goal with Kennedy was 12 months and we were about a week shy of that, but I was pregnant and sore and she was pretty ready to wean I think.  I think.  You are a whole different story.  You still nurse anywhere from 4-8 times a day.  I’m currently not offering to nurse, but not refusing and you DEMAND that I nurse you.  You pound on my chest like a gorilla and try to take my clothes off.  When you are nursing and I tell you it’s time to stop you look at me, shake your head, and say “uh uh.”

 photo Reese 15 and 16 months-2047_zps1ht1dwga.jpg

You try to repeat most of what I ask you, but right now you say mama, dada, more {mo!}, tree {tee}, turtle, woof, tweet, choo-choo, juice {ju}, up, please {peas}, and thank you {tan-to}.

 photo Reese 15 and 16 months-2142_zpsdltx4wf5.jpg

Speaking of juice… Kennedy gets water with a splash of apple juice in it sometimes and we call it juice.  You stole her sippy cup and realized hers tasted different from yours that just had water in it and now you will steal Kennedy’s sippy if you have water which of course causes major issues.  So, juice all around.

 photo Reese 15 and 16 months-2055_zps43hxctrs.jpg

You can point to your hair, eyes, ears, mouth, nose, teeth, tongue, cheeks, fingers, and toes.

 photo Reese 15 and 16 months-2665_zpscegvzuqz.jpg

You still take a morning nap, but can go without it if you need to.  Your afternoon nap is getting longer and is usually 2-2.5 hours.

 photo Reese 15 and 16 months-2155_zpsnvtsfrto.jpg

You’re sleeping great at night still and generally from about 7-7. {This will be revised in your 17 month update so don’t you worry}

 photo Reese 15 and 16 months-2034_zpsl9zvirqk.jpg

You got an ear infection and your first round of antibiotics.  I wouldn’t have even known you had one if we didn’t have to go for your 15 month well check.  Aside from the fact that neither you or Kennedy has ever had one before, you didn’t have a fever, weren’t pulling on your ear… nothing.

 photo Reese 15 and 16 months-2659_zpsi0o6a4wy.jpg

The love for your stroller continues.  You push everything around in that thing all day long.  Best Christmas present ever.

 photo Reese 15 and 16 months-2652_zpsavziuf9s.jpg

You have become such a lover.  You give hugs, kisses and snuggles to just about anyone and I think you just about melted your pregnant Auntie Lo last time she was here.

 photo Reese 15 and 16 months-2166_zpsqkybv6m0.jpg

You love coffee. When I have a cup I let you taste it. You used to just put a finger in there, but now you stick your whole hand in. If it tell you it’s hot and make you wait to try it you blow on the cup for me.

 photo Reese 15 and 16 months-2162_zps0pvtdptc.jpg

You are in that really messy stage when it comes to crafts, but you love them.

 photo Reese 15 and 16 months-2149_zpsc3anul4w.jpg
 photo Reese 15 and 16 months-2675_zpsj8mgmh55.jpg

There was also a period of time where the tutu was on constantly, but you’ve let up on that now.

 photo Reese 15 and 16 months-2063_zpshxxxd6h0.jpg

You just want to do everything your sister does and you don’t want anyone to get in your way. I love you my sweet baby girl! Happy 15 and 16 months, Reesey!

Reese |13 & 14 Months|

My first post of 2015… I’m really trying to find motivation to blog, but for some reason I don’t want to. So I’m forcing myself since it’s my baby book and I’ll be so sad if I don’t have all this recorded on there. I was also getting really irritated because my pictures were just having issues looking soft and blurry whenever I posted, but I found out that my blog template was expired and causing the problems so I started updating my site to try and get motivation to blog. It’s not finished yet so if it looks off it’s because it is 🙂

Anyways… Reesey you turned 13 and 14 months during my blog slacking and so these 2 month will be combined.

You love tutus.  Love, love, love them.  You wear them constantly.

 photo Reese 13 amp 14 months 4 of 4_zpsodijlca0.jpg

You play by yourself really well.  Kennedy never did this so I’m still surprised by it when you just get up and go play off by yourself somewhere.  You always come back to check and make sure I’m still where you left me every once in a while though.

 photo Reese 13 amp 14 months 3 of 4_zpsbuvwjqsj.jpg

You have 8 teeth.  The top 4, bottom 2, and the 2 top 1 year molars.  You refuse to ever let me look in your mouth so I thought you were cutting the next 2 teeth on the bottom and I was totally shocked when I found out your molars had cut.

 photo Reese 13 amp 14 months 2 of 8_zpsjvr7fajd.jpg

You are adding words pretty regularly now, but up to 14 months you were really only saying mama and da (for dog and daddy).  I think you’re speaking more and sooner than Kennedy so it’ll be interesting to see what your vocabulary is like since Kennedy sounds like a 5 year old.

 photo Reese 13 amp 14 months 4 of 6_zpsdi66ter6.jpg

You love the playhouse in the backyard.  The doorbell is your favorite.

 photo Reese 13 amp 14 months 1 of 1_zpseorteyeu.jpg

Your personality is just the sweetest, but like I’ve always said… the fierceness is not going anywhere and you can hold your own. If you are offended, upset, or hurt in any way we will all know about it.

photo baby samples 2 of 6_zpsbea03muq.jpg

You love Kennedy so much and you want to do everything she is doing.

 photo Reese 13 amp 14 months 4 of 8_zpsdtmsxe7y.jpg

You play with trains now so you can be like her.

 photo Reese 13 amp 14 months 6 of 6_zpsmsa5xfys.jpg

You found your shadow with a flashlight it you thought it was awesome.

 photo Reese 13 amp 14 months 7 of 8_zpsyee30f0t.jpg

We paint just about everyday so of course you have to paint too.

 photo Reese 13 amp 14 months 5 of 8_zpsoehemvt4.jpg

You started to snuggle and I couldn’t love it more. You’ve never liked to snuggle and now you will fall asleep on me and just keep sleeping and it’s amazing.

 photo Reese 13 amp 14 months 3 of 8_zps7ikc2t7v.jpg

You’re also sleeping like a champ now. I probably shouldn’t say anything about this.

photo baby samples 3 of 6_zpsmrmlz0pw.jpg

You are such a mama and taking care of your babies is serious business.

Happy Birthday, Deer Reese!

I mentioned before that Fall birthdays are hard to think of ideas for. I had a hard time with Reese’s aside from knowing that I wanted it to be gold and I wanted to sparkle. all. the. things. I saw a birthday party that I loved the cake for here and it was a “deer” theme so I ran with that.

True to my style the invitations were way late. I let people know there was going to be a party on the 8th, but I couldn’t tell them a time because we had to wait for the time of the FSU game to be announced since we don’t miss games over here and a bunch of my family were going to the game. SO… I waited. and waited. and waited some more until they finally announced it and I quick told the invitation designer the time. I got them back the Friday before the party so I just sent a picture text of the invitation out to everyone. Digital era for the win.

 photo B32FBF9D-8FB7-42D1-A213-E47F5C3F648E_zpsyekkza1w.png

I like to keep the first birthday parties small. I feel like babies get really overwhelmed pretty quickly and I didn’t want Reese to be clingy and fussy. So it was just family and a few close friends. I kept food simple too and made a big chili bar with baked potatoes, french fries, hot dogs… basically anything you’d potentially put chili on.

I didn’t decorate much, just made a few signs, the little banner for Reese’s cake and her birthday outfit.

My brother’s girlfried baked and frosted Reese’s cake for me because she’s awesome and I love her forever for doing that because it turned out so cute!

 photo ReeseBirthday_zps7abae566.jpg

And let’s just talk about Reese’s birthday outfit for a minute. I wanted Deer pants. I couldn’t find deer pants. I very rarely take no for an answer so I made them myself. Much to the amusement of my husband, mom and sister because they thought I was insane. I might be, but I still wanted deer pants. The first pair actually got ruined by accident while I was making them so my sister went to old navy in the morning and bought a new pair and I. LOVE. THEM. So did everyone else once they saw them so there.

Reese’s cake smash didn’t go super well. I think she was getting really tired, but she ended up rubbing her eye and smashing cake and frosting all over them and she freaked out. Cake smash over.
